Fatal frame 4 sound dc issue

Having a weird issue with the game, when sound is sent to the controller (such as tapes being played back) it's just noise and no words etc and then the game says it has lost connection, even though the controller is showing as player 1.
Wondering if there is any fix to get the sound running correctly ? or playing via the speakers instead of the controller?
Yes it is the official controller.
