Core i7 4790K vs Ryzen 2700X

Currently, I am running a linux dev build of dolphin-emu on a Core i7 4790K.  The build is a HTPC and is serving more than just dolphin-emu (eg. plexmedia server, samba, and private minecraft servers).  I am going to upgrade it to a 2700x in the coming months for the extra cores to host the other applications besides dolphin.
Given that IPC is similar between the two processors, should I see much of a performance difference in dolphin-emu after the upgrade?  My guess is not much, but I thought I would ask incase I am missing something.  I don't want to be surprised.

Neither will be overclocked and actually both are undervolted to minimize heat.

I am just trying to set expectations, and get an idea of any issues or problems ahead of time so that I may mitigate them preemptively.

Thoughts?  Suggestions?

Trouble with Dolphin on Nvidia shield tv

I've installed Dolphin on my Nvidia shield tv but it runs very bad.
The framerate drops down to between 2-15 and the sound is awful.
I've tried games like Super Mario Kart double dash, Mario sunshine and Mario golf.
The only game i got running good is the Zelda collection.
I've watched videos on youtube where these games work very good on Nvidia shield so i must be doing something very wrong.
Any ideas?

I've tried different versions of Dolphin, always with the same result.

Super Mario sunshine is unplayable

I was playing Super Mariso sunshine with a playstation 4 controller (as that works with Dolphin) and there isn't any problems with the controller or anything like that but the game is NOT 120% completable as I went over the the stranded dudes island AND THERE WAS NO GOLDEN BIRD! I tried a different slot like B and even put the newest update in the emulator but the bird is gone and I've used this... specific game before and bought it from the same place to see if it was the copy but IT ISN'T

So what's the definitive way to connect a Wiimote with Wiimotion plus built in?

I've searched and searched trying to connect my rvl-cnt-01-tr model wii remote to Dolphin and hardly anything works. I've tried emulating the Wii's bluetooth adapter and nothing. I've tried replacing my bluetooth driver with libusk and using the "passthrough bluetooth adapter" option and that works sometimes . I also hate having to do that because I have other normal bluetooth controllers I like using. Even on the few occasions where I could connect it, I couldn't get past the "connect nunchuck" screen in Skyward Sword.

All of that is to ask what is the best way to connect these remotes? Don't bother linking here https://dolphin-emu.org/docs/guides/wii-remote-plus-rvl-cnt-01-tr-connection-guide/ or here https://wiki.dolphin-emu.org/index.php?title=Configuring_Controllers#Wii_Remote_.22Wiimote.22 becuase I either don't know how to follow the directions or they don't work. Thanks in advance.

Vulkan Suddenly doesn't work

So recently i got a new phone, Pocophone F1. And with the few games i had on it, I really enjoyed the performance with vulkan! Full speed in most of my games. Now one day suddenly vulkan doesn't really work on dolphin, i launch a game, and it's just a black screen, though i can hear sound normally. Switching to OpenGL fixes the issue, but performance is a little worse. And I didn't update it or anything, It's like my phone stopped supporting rendering Vulkan. I'm sticking to OpenGL fine for now. but i would prefer vulkan

Hello! I've been using dolphin with my pc and I recently got a bluetooth adapter. It is this. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GVD1JWF/ref=twister_B07L2TZ99N?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I managed to sync the wiimote (which is offical) with my pc, having it rumble and show 1 light on the controller. All of my inputs do nothing though, and all games I play show a message that reads "lost connection! press a on your wii remote" Anyone know what I can do?

Wii Menu Crash and crash and... crash

Hi guys, on latests builds of Dolphin Id noticed that system menú doesnt work pretty well.

I did a clean install of Dolphin, extracted my nand, updated. And I can boot my system menú.

I can Access wii store, mii channel, but just 1 or 2 times.

After that, I get hard crashes on Dolphin when trying to launch wii store, mii channel, even wii ware games, all black screen until Dolphin crash, it just dissappear. Launchig those wads from system menú or directly from Dolphin, makes no difference.

I just replaced Dolphin with a 10 months old dev build, and I can Access fine, not 100% of the times, but almost.

Back to new builds, and all this is broken.

Im using Windows 10 1809

Amd gpu, Intel cpu. Dolphin stock. Tried changing graphics backend, but its the same.

new computer, abysmal FPS

So Ive been using dolphin for 2 years now and I absolutely love it. I recently purchased a new laptop and have been very excited to use it for dolphin. in the past my old computer ran dolphin really well, never any lag or anything, and I could run any game at 100 percent no matter what resolution I set. I figured with my new high end gaming laptop, dolphin would work just as well, but to my surprise, it seems like every time I try to play something, I cant get past 60 percent or 30fps. this baffles me, since my old system had an inferior graphics card and cpu, yet it ran games super smooth. I figured my alienwares Nvidia geforce 1070 wouldc handle dolphin just fine, but after fiddling with settings based on what Ive read in the forums here, I still cant seem to get it to a playable framerate. Only thing that improved it was when I switched over to Direct3d 11, but that was causing some massive spikes in my GPU load ( like 1 percent to 99 percent the second I turned it on) so I don't think that's a sustainable solution. If anyone has any suggestions on what I can do to get back to a manageable frame rate, Id really appreciate it.

Hello, I'm new here and I'm trying the android emulator just now..

I have some questions:
1. Can we use cheat in this android emulator? If yes, how?
2. I saw in youtube that there's someone can save state anf load state.. I downloaded the newest version and his version, but I don't see any save state or load state.. how to display it?
3. Any recommended settings for the emulator?

Thanks before! ?

Bluetooth passthrough

Hi guys,
My Wiimote has just arrived and I'm trying to connect it for the first time... I went with the passthrough option with zagdig, but now my system doesn't recognise my bluetooth adaptor, so I can't use my mouse, keyboard, headphones, PS4 controller etc... Is this normal?
What do I need to do to restore functionality, do I need to reinstall drivers every time I want to use the Wiimote?

Maybe I should go with the Toshiba stack option? That will let me use bluetooth normally, right?

Thanks!

Failed to create vulkan instance (Nvidia Shield)

Hi guys!

Im new to dolphin, started using it after I got a Nvidia Shield for xmas Smile

I get an error message when im launching a rom. But it only happens once, and always the first time after dolphin's been started. Only happens with vulkan

"Failed to initialize video backend"
"Failed to create Vulkan instance"

If I close and restart dolphin I will get that error message again, but only once. So i guess it isnt a big problem just a bit annoying

Anyone know how to fix this?
Anyone else experience this problem?

Cheers

Linux Bluetooth Passthrough

Hi, I have Bluetooth passthrough working but when I stop using Dolphin, how do I give the OS control of the Bluetooth device again? I have tried "sudo modprobe btusb" and "sudo service restart bluetooth" but with no luck. It just says please plug in a Bluetooth adapter. Also it is a built in adapter meaning I can't unplug it and replug it back in. My current solution is to reboot but I would like to avoid doing that.

If anyone knows a solution I would be grateful.

Lag in Zelda Skyward Sword

So I've been doing some searching and testing and haven't been able to find something that works yet... But basically the issue I've been having is that when I run Skyward Sword (I've been using Dolphin 5.0-9322) it is quite laggy in most of the settings I test out. I have tested the native resolution, 720p, 1080p, etc. as well as all the different anti-aliasing settings. I was able to find something that worked for someone else who seemed to have a similar issue where they disabled the Dual-core and disabled v-sync. I tested it, but without any success... I've made it so my PC runs in High Performance mode, as well as set Dolphin at max performance in the Nvidia Control Panel. I'm pretty sure that my laptop has the capability of running the game and should be able to run it at good fps (from other videos and threads I've seen), but I'm not sure what other settings or options I should try to get it to run at full fps and preferably with higher resolution.

I have a first gen Surface Book with the Performance Base (Nvidia GeForce GTX 965M). I've kept the driver updated. The processor is Intel Core i7-6600U, 2.60GHz. 16 GB RAM.

(I should also mentioned that I've tried it on Dolphin version 3.5 and 5.0 stable version with no success... Also, the average fps I get when doing 720p or 1080p is about 24 fps. It goes up to about 27 when I do the native resolution.)

If anyone has any suggestions or help that would be appreciated! Thanks so much! Big Grin

Performance noticably worse since v5.0-9411

Hi,

Have been playing 'Donkey Kong Country Returns' on my rig (i7 8700K, GTX 1080, DDR4 3000 (16gb), Asus Z370-P Prime Mobo) and the game ran smooth as butter. Apart from the usual pausing/lag which Ubershaders isnt fixing for me at all, the game is now stuttery when moving. Almost like v-sync isnt enabled. Update v5.0-9411 seems to of changed something. I havent changed any settings but since yesterday (16th jan) performance has definitely got worse. Not sure why TBH. Hope they fix it.

Cheers,

Vulkan & AMD

Hello,
I have a laptop with Amd 8670m as discrete GPU and in it does support vulkan but the problem is that dolphin seem to use the iGpu(intel 4400hd) when i choose vulkan api and says "failed to create Vulkan instance"
SO is there any way to jump above this issue ?

Zoom widescreen shader for letterboxed GC games (like Resident Evil 4)

$

There are a few gamecube games like, Resident Evil 4, that play in 16:9 with letter boxing to fill out the 4:3 screen. I was playing Resident Evil 4 again today and was disappointed that Dolphin doesn't have an option to zoom the image to fill my monitor, and I couldn't find any solution online. So I wrote a post-processing shader to help with this. Maybe some day Dolphin will support this effect natively, but until then this is a quick and easy solution!

Just copy and paste the code below into a .gsl file in your "Dolphin Emulator/Shaders" folder, then enable the shader under Graphics > Enhancements > Post-Processing Effects (it will be called whatever you named the file).

Code:
// For games that are 16:9 and letterboxed to fit a 4:3 screen, this shader will
// help by zooming the image in to fill a widescreen monitor.
//
// To use, set the aspect ratio to force 16:9 in the graphics option, then
// enable this shader in Post-Processing Effects.

void main() {
    float2 coords = GetCoordinates() - float2(0.5, 0.5);
    float2 new_coords = float2(coords.x, coords.y*3/4);
    float2 sample_coords = new_coords + float2(0.5, 0.5);
    SetOutput(SampleLocation(sample_coords));
}

The way this works is by simply stretching the image along the vertical axis. Forcing 16:9 aspect ratio in the Dolphin settings will stretch the image horizontally, so as long as the vertical stretch matches the horizontal stretch the original aspect ratio will be preserved, and the image will fill the screen horizontally.

I'm sure there's room for improvement, but this was simple and worked.

Audio crackling, stuttering and generally not in sync

So I've tested twin snakes, re2, re 3 and eternal darkness and all of the games have these issues. Audio crackling, stutters will OCCASIONALLY, and the audio is not only crackly sometimes, it's ALWAYS out of sync, like it's half a second behind. Navigating menus, character footsteps and everything else that produces sound effects, the audio just isn't in sync with the actions.

My build is x64bit 5.0

i7 4790K, 16 GB RAM, GTX 980, latest Nvidia Drivers

My settings are below.

Any help is greatly appreciated as I just can't get through the games with this happening so often. Thanks!
