What if Dolphin were to be optimized for long term support versions of Ubuntu? That way Dolphin has the best performance possible on the Ubuntu platform.

The next LTS release will be 14.04

Cant get Netplay to work properly no matter what.

Note: This is a repost from a recent thread that was buried and never was solved.

I'm sure a lot of other people are having this issue but no matter what I do I can't seem to get netplay to work properly at even a semi-playable state. What I mean by that is it works... but is not even a tolerable speed. Once I click "start game" The windows come up for us, but the emulator speed drops to 10-30%. I've already went through a majority of solutions on the forums, and nothing has worked towards fixing the speed. Even while using all the settings that Dolphin says all emulators should be using for netplay. We've also tried other settings but none worked. Our ping to each other is 15 so I wouldn't think internet could be an issue. So I guess, is my computer even capable of hosting gamecube games online? Also the person I've been testing netplay with has a fairly similar pc to mine, only with minor differences. Keep in mind we don't desync, our performance is just horribly low.

My specs:
Operating System: Windows 7 64-Bit
Processor/CPU: AMD FX™-8350 Eight-Core Processor 4.01GHz
Video Card/GPU: AMD Radeon HD 7800
Memory/RAM: 8GB DDR3
Dolphin Revision Currently Using: 3.5-2171

We've already tried changing the pad buffer higher, sadly when we've tried it, there isn't even a notable difference when changing the pad. Performance would increase (at the very most) only by 1-2%. It didn't make much of a difference. The emulator performs fine running on a single thread when not using netplay, but is it too intensive for my CPU to handle with netplay? I wouldn't think that would be the case cause even when my friends have tested themselves (One uses an Intel Core i7-4770K @ 3.50GHz and the other uses Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz ) Not even they could get it to work at moderate speed.

My friends and I have been testing netplay with multiple games to see if we can manage to get any working at a playable speed. But the main games we've been testing were "Super Smash Bros: Melee, Mario Party 5, Super Mario Strikers, and Worms 3D" (I think Worms may be a problem anyway since you have to share one controller). We've been using these games as tests for netplay just cause we figure they might easier to run than for example an open-world games like Kirby's Air Ride or Starfox: Assault. But anyway, our settings for all Dolphin emulators have consisted of Duel-Core being off, Audio Throttle off, all Backend set to Direct3D9 (depricated), DSP-HLE with No Audio Output, Frame Limit Set to either No Limit or Auto (we've been going back and forth on this setting), No Memory Card, and controllers set from 2-3 (dependent how any people were present during our cracks at netplay), as well as all users using Dolphin 3.5-2171. And I think it goes without saying that my port for the Dolphin Emu has been forwarded.

Please help me choose a laptop for Dolphin

Hello! Currently I'm running Dolphin on an 11-inch MacBook Air from 2012 (I re-partitioned the drive and installed Windows 7 on it). It runs fairly well, but as you can imagine many games experience slowdown. Everything I've read tells me that the integrated graphics are the bottleneck and that I should be using a machine with a dedicated GPU. With that in mind, here are my requirements:

1. Portable. Please don't tell me I can build my own tower with face-melting specs for chump change. I live in central Taipei. My apartment is the size of a shoebox. If I just wanted to play Wii and Gamecube games at home, I'd turn on my Wii (or Gamecube) and sit in front of the television. I need a laptop that's easy to carry around, and I'm willing to pay more and/or make sacrifices to do this. 15" is the absolute max size I'd want, with 14" or smaller being preferable.

2. This is only for games. I have a 2013 MacBook Air that I use as my general-purpose computer. This machine would simply be a toy for gaming so I don't really care how well it runs other apps. So if the keyboard or even the trackpad is a bit iffy it's OK.

3. 640x480 for Gamecube or 480p for Wii is a fine resolution for me. I'm sure Mario's mustache looks extra cool in 1080p, but if I can get full speed at native res (or even reasonably close to full speed) that's fine with me.

4. Battery life is nice but not absolutely necessary. I know plenty of local places around me with ample power outlets for their customers.

5. I also hope to run PCSX2 on this machine. I also have some PC games (Burnout Paradise, Sonic Generations, Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing) but considering they already run decent on this MacBook Air, I'm assuming they should run even better on a machine with a dedicated GPU. Of course I'll also run Project64, MAME and other emulators.

I thought I had settled on the MSI GE40. It has an i7 Haswell CPU (2.9-3.2 Ghz) and a GTX 760M GPU, with 8GB RAM. It's also small enough to carry around. I played around with one briefly at the Guanghua Digital Plaza and aside from crapass Windows 8 it seems decent enough. (http://goods.ruten.com.tw/item/show?21307260524103) It sells for NT$38000 there.

But I also stumbled across this machine from Acer (http://goods.ruten.com.tw/item/show?21308253867252) It seems a lot sexier than the MSI machine and it's about USD $100 cheaper, but it's only an i5-4200U processor ant a 750M GPU. Would this still be OK for Dolphin?

Then there's the super budget option, the Toshiba L50T-A (http://goods.ruten.com.tw/item/show?21308072992564) only NT$26,000 (about $870). This model seems exclusive to Taiwan as far as I can tell. It has a GT740 GPU and an I5-3230M CPU, and 4G of RAM (but I think you can upgrade the RAM pretty easily). Obviously it's not going to play Crysis 3 as well as the MSI machine, but would Dolphin run OK on it?

Are there any other laptop models I should be considering? As a long time Mac user, I suddenly find myself overwhelmed with choices. When I bought my MacBook Air I had two choices (11" or 13") and I agonized over the choice for weeks. With PCs there are simply too many options to consider, so I humbly ask for the advice of you, the Dolphin community. Thanks!

NVIDIA Optimus - need someone for info

Hoy,

I'm looking for someone with an Optimus laptop in the following case: when running Dolphin normally (double click on it), it uses your Intel IGP instead of the NVIDIA card, and you have to use Right Click > Run on NVIDIA GPU on the Dolphin.exe to get it running on the NVIDIA GPU.

If that happens to you, could you give me the following info:

- Operating System
- CPU
- GPU
- x86 or x64 Dolphin
- Does it happen with all backends?
- NVIDIA driver version

Thanks,

Bluetooth dont detect wiimote motionplus

I have an old wiimote to synchronize with Onboard Bluetooth controlled by Windows and works perfectly. But I bought a new Wiimote with integrated MotionPlus and I can not detect it. I tried pressing the red button or by pressing 1 +2 without success. Wiimote lights come on as normal but no computer detects it. The version of the control on the side is: ACN 060 566 083 / FCC ID: POO-WC62 / IC: 4250A-WC62. At the bottom is: RVL-036. And inside: RVL (M) -1 RVL-003.

I searched a lot on the internet and some say it is the version of wiimote. Is there a problem with this version?
Thanks for helping

"Shitty" failure in X64 build

I have just got 3.5-2193, and this is what happens:
When it´s compressed, it says that it couldn´t start because OpenAL32.dll was missing (being right there!). I extract it, and then says that xinput1_3.dll was missing too. I put the file in the folder and when I open says:
The application was unable to start correctly (0x000007b). Click OK to close the app.
The first thing that comes to mind is DirectX, but it can´t be since I run X86 builds correctly.
The specs:
HP Pavilion TouchSmart 11
AMD A6-1450 APU @1.0 GHz (1.4 GHz overclockable)
AMD Radeon HD Graphics 8250
4 GB RAM DDR3 @533 MHz
Thanks in advance for the help.

Bit of a problem with Timesplitters 2

Hello, everyone. I recently installed the Dolphin Emu 3.5 with hopes that I wouldn't have to lug a game console all the way to college. It's working great so far (no crashes, plenty of performance options, etc.), but I've been having issues running Timesplitters 2 without problems.

The issues vary from minor stuttering to shifting objects to FPS drops as low as 2 frames per second. There was a stuttering audio problem when I firs installed the 367 version, but it seems to have vanished when I downgraded to the stable build. My laptop should be powerful enough to run it (specs will be listed below), especially if it can run Bioshock Infinite on medium settings with only minor lag.

The specs for my Acer laptop are:

AMD Phenom II X3 Mobile Processor N830 (2.1 GHz)
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650
4 GB RAM
500 GB HDD

I don't want to attempt to overclock the laptop, as it's been very reliable, and I know I'll find some way to damage it as a result.

Any help you guys can offer will be greatly appreciated.

Dolphin 4.0

Ok so I heard and read some stuff about dolphin 4.0 coming out this mid September. I was wondering if these stuff can be added. 1. online play. I really want to see online play in dolphin but I don't see how that would work if someones game dosent stay at 60fps forever. Maybe we just need a good internet and not good specs lol. 2. I want the performance for it to be fast because some people are not able to play dolphin at good speeds so maybe dolphin 4.0 could be much faster than any other versions of dolphin and just have a lot of good performance since wii and gamecube don't even have good specs but we need a good pc to play them full speed lol.

Some games do not recognize my ps1 control

I use control in some ps1 games, and works perfectly as Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3, Mario Kart, Sonic Colors. But other games to emulate, is the white screen while pressing the control is not recognized, even the keyboard ... after the white screen loads the early games like Donkey Kong Country Returns, Yu-Gi-Oh 5Ds Master of the Cards, but has no way to play because it recognizes no control ... could someone help me please? It would be a problem with. Iso? My processor is i7, Gforce video 2G, 8G ram.

Seria algum problema no .iso? Meu processador é i7, 2G vídeo Gforce, 8G ram.

Best Controller for OSX?

Hi Guys,

I'm wondering what is the best controller to use for Dolphin on OSX?

I'm not too bothered about a WiiMote setup since i'll mainly be using GC games or games that dont require motion controls as i've never really been a fan of it.

I like the classic gamecube controller for wii but not sure how it connects and works within OSX?

If thats not possible i do have a PS3 controller laying around, is it possible to use this on dolphin? i've not found an answer as of yet? I can see how to connect it with Bluetooth, does it need anything else to work with Dolphin?

Failing that, what is the best setup for OSX? I'm open to suggestions.. Many thanks.

Dolphin on a Mac Mini?

Hey, i've only just stumbled across Dolphin, simply amazing! I ran Resident Evil (GC) on my Retina Macbook pro and the graphics were stunning (x2), better than some modern games... it ran perfect on my machine as well.

So it got me thinking, i have an old Mac Mini collecting dust, is it worth me trying to run Dolphin on it, the specs are:

Intel Core i5 "Sandy Bridge" 2415m
8GB DDR3 Ram
Intel HD Graphics 3000

I know HD 3000 is nothing special, which is why i'm asking... the Mini needs an OS installing on it and i dont want to waste my time if it's going to be rubbish, if it's worthy, i'm wondering whats the best setup, is OSX sufficient (preferred) or should i go with Windows?

I'll mainly be playing Gamecube games to be honest but wouldn't mind the odd Wii game.

If it's no good, all is not lost i can just hook up the rMBP to TV with HDMI, but it would be much better to have a dedicated box for this, i looked at upgrades on Apples site but the best they offer is HD 4000.

Thoughts?

upgraded from -367 to -2199, wii saves seem to have gone missing

$

I upgraded 3.5-367 to 3.5-2199, and have now seemingly lost my savegame information. My User\wii\title\ dir has two subdirs, 00000001 (containing a dir "00000002", which contains a dir "data", which contains a 256 byte file "settings.txt") and 00010000 (containing a dir "524b3545" with a dir "content" that has title.tmd, and a dir "data" with 4Mb worth of banner.bin, FLF.bin, and 30 .jpg files that aren't actual images).

I tried to import the data from the 00010000/524b3545/data dir, but neither .bin file is considered a wii savedata file. Is there any way to find out where my savegames went?
